PD Enhances Public Service Efficiency through Targeted Training on Increments

In a concerted effort to bolster efficiency within the public service, senior staff members of the Personnel Department conducted a series of comprehensive training sessions throughout August, September, and October. These workshops, focusing on Increments and Salary Administration, engaged approximately 100 participants from a cross-section of Ministries and public sector Agencies. The primary aim of these sessions was to equip attendees with essential skills and foundational knowledge necessary for accurately determining incremental dates and salaries for public officers.

Participants actively engaged with the latest circulars and regulations governing increments, laying the groundwork for both practical and theoretical exercises. This robust approach is designed to minimise overpayments and reduce delays in processing benefits, ultimately contributing to a more streamlined and effective system. Among the Ministries and agencies benefiting from these workshops were the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the Criminal and Traffic Division of the Judiciary at the request of Deputy Court Executive Administrator Ms. Carolyn Washington-Aigle, as well as, the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the Ministry of Trade and Industry. Each of these entities gained critical insights tailored to their specific operational needs.

Another notable session was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Administration, where twenty four (24) Officers from various ministries, including Senior Managers and Human Resource Personnel, honed their skills in job description writing for contract positions. This meticulous training encompassed essential components such as format, guidelines, definitions, and the overarching purpose of job descriptions. The detailed instruction ensures that employees can clearly articulate their duties and responsibilities, enhancing organisational clarity and efficiency.

Through these thoughtfully designed sessions, the Personnel Department is reinforcing the capabilities of the Human Resource Management Units and Accounting/Internal Audit Units within the relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This initiative underscores a steadfast commitment to equipping public sector representatives with the knowledge and skills essential for effective governance and service delivery.

As the Compensation Management Division (CMD) continues to engage stakeholders through these targeted training efforts, the public sector is poised for a future characterised by improved operational effectiveness, heightened employee satisfaction, and greater public trust in governmental processes. Notwithstanding, navigating the complexities of public service training, the CMD is not merely fulfilling a mandate; it is paving the way toward a more competent and responsive public administration. In this transformative journey, every training session serves as a stepping stone toward a more effective and accountable governance framework, ultimately benefitting the respective ministries and the wider public service.
